About VesselScore

Independent vessel due diligence, assembled in seconds from public maritime records.

What we do

VesselScore generates comprehensive due diligence reports on any vessel in the world commercial fleet. Each report brings together port state control inspection history, detention records, sanctions screening, ownership and management chains, classification and flag history, market valuations, machinery specifications, satellite imagery, AIS tracking, and an AI-written risk narrative tailored to the user’s professional role.

Reports are generated on demand in seconds, not hours. The goal is to give shipbrokers, charterers, insurers, operators, and compliance teams the information they need to make fast, informed decisions about a vessel without pulling from five different sources.

Who we are

VesselScore was founded by James Fraser, a shipping and commodity trading professional with experience across physical markets, vessel operations, and data-driven analytics. The platform is built on first-hand knowledge of what brokers, charterers, and operators actually need when screening a vessel — and what existing tools get wrong.

The VesselScore model

Each vessel receives a score out of 100 based on 11 independently weighted components covering inspection performance, detention history, sanctions exposure, ownership stability, flag and classification history, emissions efficiency, hull condition, AIS behaviour, and casualty records. A logistic regression model estimates detention probability based on the same inputs.

The scoring methodology is fully documented on our methodology page.
